This is a piece I did for Reshad Kulenovic's film S. The film is a surreal exploration of war and psychology, and the director gave me some reference to paint from, stipulating he wanted the figure surrounded by a field of poppies. I painted it entirely in Photoshop.
I was trying to evoke some mood through ambiguity. Maybe he's dead? Maybe he's sleeping or meditating? There's something horrible about the poppie field, and the orientation of the staring flowers. On the topic of poppies, and opiates, the emaciated figure might be an addict, but in the context of war, what does this all mean?
